Korle Gonno residents vow to resist AMA demolition

Residents in Korle Gonno, a suburb in Accra, Thursday vowed to resist a demolition exercise by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly in the area.
The AMA has earmarked a number of shops for demolition in the area.
Irate property owners and aggrieved residents of the area poured out on the street in Korle Gonno vowing to resist any attempts by the AMA from carrying out its planned demolition.
The Assembly intends to flatten the structures and in their place put up a millennium school on the two acre land.
But the family that claims ownership of the land is accusing the AMA of using dubious means to acquire the land.
They also claim the AMA is offering them 10 thousand Ghana cedis compensation for a two (2) acre land which they describe as unsatisfactory.
But the family that is claiming ownership of the land in an interview with Starr News said they prevented the AMA from taking over the land some four years ago.
Nii Nanka Bruce, spokesperson for the family, explained that they decided to lease the land to the AMA for a year to use for a school and it is strange that the AMA is claiming ownership of the land.
