Korle Bu’s Surgical Department refurbished

Accra, Nov. 12, GNA – MDS-Lancet Laboratories Ghana, a

private medical laboratory centre, on Friday handed over a

refurbished Department of Surgery at a cost of GH¢20,000 to the

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The facelift, aimed at creating conducive environment for

patients and staff of the Department, covered the conference room,

library, seminar room, floor tile replacement, change of wooden

doors to aluminum, and blinds replacement.

Dr Paul Sekyere-Nyantakyi Chief Executive Officer of MDS-

Lancet Laboratories said the renovation formed part of the

company’s social responsibility and that it had over the years been

collaborating with the Hospital and supporting it with various

medical outreach programmes. He noted that the company had discussed with its

partners to undertake another project in the hospital to make it

remain the nation’s premier healthcare institution. Dr Sekyere-Nyantakyi expressed the hope that the refurbishment

would go a long way to promote quality health care delivery by

serving as a point of academic and research intercourse. Dr Clegg Lamptey, Head of Surgical Department, said the

Surgical Block, known as the engine room, was the largest

Department at the Hospital and also served as examination centre

for staff and students from the University of Ghana and other

doctors from the West African Sub-Region. He urged other stakeholders and organisations to support the

Department to make it a centre of excellence. Dr Afua Hesse, Head of Medical Affairs of the hospital, noted

that the Department would do its best to maintain the facility and to

take the MDS- Lancet Laboratories as good partner in development.
