Korle-Bu turns emergency cases away

Nurses at the Gynaecology Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital say emergency cases are being turned away.

The nurses who, pleaded anonymity, say though some doctors are working, emergency cases are not being accepted because of the strike by consultants.

JOY NEWS checks at the Obstetrics Department reveal that doctors are not working at all. Some patients who spoke to our correspondent say they have been told that the doctors are on strike and so have not been attended to.

They say they have no choice but to go to private hospitals or delay their treatments.

The consultants, numbering 115, today entered the second week of industrial action to back demands for unpaid Additional Duty Hours (ADH) allowance.

The consultants are employees of the Ministry of Education. The consultants did not benefit from the recent salary adjustments enjoyed by health professional because they are not employers of the Ministry of Health.
