There is tension at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra following widespread complaints of mismanagement against the Chief Executive Dr. Gilbert Buckle and board chairman Dr. Anthony Mawuli Sallar.
The two are said to have allocated huge bonuses to themselves at a time when the hospital is struggling to raise the needed funds for basic consumables.
The two were appointed in July 2014, following staff agitation against then acting CEO, Rev. Albert Okpoti Botwe, and then Board Chair Eddie Annan over similar concerns.
Speaking to Class FM’s Fred Smith, President of the Senior Staff Association of the hospital, Charles Ofei-Palm, said the hospital has lost huge sums of money to judgment debts.
“The picture in Korle-Bu is not good at all. Not good in so many ways. Mismanagement has led to poor judgment debts,” he said.
According to him, management does not take its time in looking into issues, they are quick to victimise staff who take the hospital to court, and end up paying judgment debts to such workers, a situation which is affecting the hospital financially.
He said the hospital’s records show Korle-Bu is losing lots of money in the payment of judgment debts and management should be held responsible and accountable for the losses.
“For once we are saying enough is enough. If you come to the hospital as a CEO or as a board chairman and you cause a lot of financial loss it means you don’t know what you are about,” he added.
“If Korle-Bu were your personal property or private business you would not manage it the way we see it.”
He noted management is aware the laborator, radiology, Intensive Care Units, and theatres are not working properly, and there are not enough drugs in the hospital but continues to cause financial loss to the hospital.
