Korle Bu gets 25 billion cedis for projects

Accra, Oct. 8, GNA – The Government has secured 25 billion cedis for the completion of on-going projects including 30 blocks of flats for staff accommodation at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Dr Kwaku Afriyie, Minister of Health, said the funds would also take care of the renovation and refurbishment of the Medical, Gynaecological and Maternity Blocks and the Outpatients’ Department at the Hospital. The Health Minister was speaking at the unveiling of a plaque and inauguration of two blocks of flats as part of the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Hospital in Accra on Wednesday.

Dr Afriyie said the Government was committed to improving the conditions of service of health workers adding that 400 vehicles would soon be made available to them to ease their transportation problems. Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Chief Executive of the Hospital, said the two blocks of flats, which could accommodate about 30 families, was completed at a cost of 1.8 billion cedis.

Prof. Samuel Ofosu-Amaah, Board Chairman of the Hospital, said it was a pity to find health workers struggling from far places such as Adenta to get to work on time due to accommodation problems.
