Korle-Bu doctor in rape scandal

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Tema Regional Police Command is investigating a certain Dr. Nicholas Kwame Wood, a 38-year-old medical doctor of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, for allegedly raping a physically challenged 22-year-old lady.

The alleged rape scandal has attracted much attention in Tema and its environs.

Dr Wood was purported to have lured the victim into his house at Middle East, an Ashaiman suburb, where he was said to have forcibly undressed the lady and had sexual intercourse with her.

The doctor, who allegedly slept with the lady without using a condom, admitted the offence during police interrogations but has been granted police enquiry bail.

A police medical report form which was endorsed by a physician at the Tema General Hospital and chanced upon by DAILY GUIDE, indicated that the victim suffered tenderness on the right thigh and groin.

The report showed that the examination on the vagina revealed clear vaginal discharge with hymen absent.

But police are dragging their feet in the matter as they have granted the suspect self-recognisance bail in the first-degree felony case, and allegedly asked the victim to be careful anytime a man invites her into his room.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicated that Dr. Wood became acquainted with the lady, and they exchanged contacts. On July 12, 2014, at about 7:30 pm, the victim allegedly received a phone call from Dr Wood, who invited her to his house.

The victim was said to have insisted on leaving immediately, but Dr. Wood asked her to wait so he could drive her back. He left to purchase something outside only to return later to pounce on the lady. She was said to have screamed for help, but no avail.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rebecca Nyamah, Tema Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, when contacted via phone, confirmed the case to DAILY GUIDE and mentioned that her outfit would be processing the medical doctor when investigations were completed by next week.

She noted that investigations was on course.
