Korle-Bu blood bank will run out in 7 days

The Korle-Bu blood bank will run out of stock within the next seven days, according to the head of the blood donor recruitment of the Korle-Bu blood bank Samuel Nunoo.

The hospital, as part of its 90th anniversary, organised a blood donation exercise to restock the blood bank.

Speaking to XYZ News, Mr. Nunoo said the stock available at the bank is woefully inadequate to meet the needs of patients.

“The demand for blood is so much that we can’t meet that, so what we have now will go for maybe two; three or a week’s time would be finished,” Mr. Nunoo said.

Recently, pregnant mothers were asked to give blood prior to giving birth so, that in the case of post-partum haemorrage, blood would be available. Blood loss is one of the biggest killers in women during childbirth.
