Accra, Feb. 24, GNA – Mr Lee Sang Hak, Korean Ambassador to Ghana, on Wednesday called on Mr Alban Bagbin, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, and discussed the construction of some 200,000 housing units in Ghana by a Korean company.

The houses, to be built by STX Engineering and Construction Company, would be used to cater for the needs of military, police and the private sector.

The project supported by Korean Government is expected to be executed within two-and-a-half years.

The meeting was also to invite Mr Bagbin to join Vice President John Mahama’s delegation which is expected to visit Korea this month. Mr Bagbin said issues concerning housing were important to the Ministry as it sought solutions to meet the demand and supply of houses. He noted that there was a high deficit between the demand and supply of houses for workers.

The Minister said government was also concerned about the challenges confronting the water sector and appealed to the Korean Government to lend a hand in that direction.

Dr Hannah Bissiw, Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, lauded the commitment from the Korean government to help Government achieve its “Better Ghana” agenda.

Dr Bissiw said she would be grateful if the housing project would be executed within one-and-a-half years.

Mr Lee said his visit was to cement the existing relationship between Ghana and Korea adding that the Korean government was not only going to help in the housing project but would also lend a hand in the area of agriculture and energy.

He said Korea was going to increase its investments in Ghana’s economy and share their success story with Ghana. 24 Feb. 10
