Konkombas attack Fulani herdsmen, leave 1000 cattle dead

A fresh attack was launched on some Fulani herdsmen in the Atebubu/Amanteng and Pru districts in the Brong Ahafo Region by some Konkombas in the area, leaving about 1,000 cattle dead and over 2,000 lost due to gun shots.

Speaking to the press at Prang during an emergency meeting with cattle farmers, a prominent cattle farmer in Yeji and Asonomaso, Baffour Gyekyi expressed worry over what he said were series of attacks on cattle farmers.

He said the Konkombas are especially guilty and must be condemned.

Mr. Baffour told reporters that he had a phone call from his herdsmen that the Konkombas had attacked the animals at Aboa, the last village before river Pru. Before he left Kumasi for Prang, Mr Baffour added, the shooting had escalated to about 12 towns.

As a result, Baffour said he lost 10 big cattle.

The affected towns include Beposo Ajaraja, Lale, Ankrakuka, Aboa, Bolga Nkwanta, Domeabra, Tigamgam, Boe, Atobanda, Sanyaso, Mantukwa and Bakyibuno – where the animals were killed, stolen or got missing.

When contacted, Supt Martey who is the Police Commander for Atebubu confirmed the incident, saying the police were in control.

According to him, no deaths were recorded, but one young herdsman called Mohammed Ali (17 years) got wounded by gun shots.

Meanwhile, four suspects have been arrested by the police and remanded in custody by a law court.

The paramount chief of Prang traditional area, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III, also confirmed the story. He commended the police for their swift action in controlling the situation.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that some affected Gonjas are mobilizing themselves to pay back the Konkombas but the police say are ready for any eventuality.
