Kojo Yankah resigns as minister

Mr Kojo Yankah, outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister has resigned from the government. In a letter addressed to President Jerry John Rawlings and copied to the media, Mr Yankah said he was resigning “for very personal reasons” but will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament for Agona East. He has been MP for that constituency since 1993. The letter was also copied to Vice-President John Evans Atta Mills, The Speaker of Parliament and the Chief of Staff at the office of the President. Mr Yankah said, “for nearly seven years since I was offered a ministerial appointment, I have endeavoured to serve, to the best of my ability, my party, government and the nation. “As a human being, admittedly, I may have committed some errors, but I wish to assure you that everything I did was in good faith”.

He thanked the President for giving him the opportunity to serve in government in various capacities. Mr Yankah had held the portfolios of a Deputy Minister of Information and Central Regional Minister. A recent Cabinet reshuffle transferred him from the Ashanti region to the National Development and Planning Commission (NDPC) as a Minister of State.
