Koforidua Technical University introduces new mechatronics programme

Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field of science that includes a combination of mechanical engineering, electronics, computer engineering, telecommunications engineering, systems engineering and control engineering.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. (Mrs) Smile Gavua Disi explained that the new programme is being introduced collaboration with Hamm-Lippstadt University in Germany.

Currently, over 70% of programmes being offered by the university are Science, Technology and Vocation biased, hence the need to tailor Bachelor in Technology programs to redirect focus on sciences including Engineering and Technology.

“We are revising our curricula to reflect our renewed mandate over 70% of our programs are now science, technology and vocation biased and virtually, all our upcoming 4 year B. Tech programs are in the fields of Engineering , computing, food, health and allied sciences,” Prof. Disi pointed out at a media soiree.

She said the University is collaborating with industries and other institutions to tilt the education delivery to be problem solving and job oriented.

Prof. Disi said the KTU is modifying the mode of education delivery by expanding open, online, flexible and blended approaches into the education delivery system to provide impeccable education to students.

The Eastern regional Secretary of Ghana Journalists Association, Maxwell Kudekor, entreated the Universities in Ghana to collaborate with the media to find solutions to national problems through researches.

He appealed to KTU to offer scholarship opportunities to Journalists to be train in various academic disciplines, especially Engineering, Environment and Technology to build capacity of journalists to help communicate effectively in these fields to support the industrial drive of the country.????
