Koforidua, July 3, GNA – The perennial water problem in Koforidua would soon be solved when the on-going 2.5 million-dollar rehabilitation works on the Densuagya Pumping Station and the treatment plant are complete later this month.
The daily supply of treated water is expected to increase from one million gallons per day to 2 million gallons per day after completion of the project.
The Eastern Regional Chief Manager of the Ghana Water Company (GWC), Mr Ebenezer Kobina Garbrah announced this when conducting Mr Yaw Barimah, the Minister of manpower and Development and the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Adjei Boateng round the project site. Mr Garbrah said the work, which formed part of the 10-million-dollar Spanish funded Six-Town Water Rehabilitation Project for Asamankese, Anum-Boso, Akim Swedru, Nsawam was being executed by Messrs GESTAGUA Consortium of Spain was executing Nkawkaw. It involved the deepening of the intake-point and laying of six-kilometre long new transmission pipes to the treatment plant as well as four-kilometre new distribution lines.
Mr Garbrah said the treatment plant which was also being refurbished for the first time since 1935, would involve a pilot water treatment technology which would be replicated at various water works in the country if proved successful.
In a related development Mr Barimah, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for koforidua, inaugurated a 100-million-cedi sanitation project, which was jointly financed with funds from the EU, the MP’s Share of the Common Fund and the Assembly, at Koforidua-Adah Magazine.
