Kofi Wayo To Sue Energy Minister

Politician and social commentator, Kofi Wayo is threatening to sue Energy Minister, Kan Dapaah and his special advisor, Kwame Owusu Nuako for defaming him and the American firm that he is fronting for. Mr. Wayo has on various radio programmes said that although the American firm has expressed interest in exploring oil in the country, government officials have declined to give them attention.

According to the (quote)Evening News(quote), Mr. Nuako who was speaking on Choice FM – an Accra based radio station reportedly described Wayo(quote)s proposal as a sham, which clouded the entire project in suspicion. Unhappy about the comments by the Minister’s advisor, the one-time Parliamentary hopeful reportedly stormed Choice FM and verbally assaulted him.

But Kofi Wayo told JOY FM that he only went to the studio to ask the special advisor to put the facts right. According to him, the American firm has never submitted a proposal to the Ministry. “I sent a letter to the Ministry expressing our interest and another letter from our head office expressing our interest. We gave them a starting price and we were waiting for them to call us for discussions but they didn’t do that.”

Recalling that that the Energy Minister also made derogatory remarks about him on a radio station sometime ago, Mr. Wayo says he will fight any attempt to discredit him. He also intends to take legal action against the “Evening News” for what he described as rumour mongering. “This is the second time that the Evening News is bringing up such stories about me. It is the same Evening News that spearheaded the campaign against Rawlings. They’ve got to check their facts and I’m going to sue them 6 billion cedis and give the money to the hospital,” Wayo added.
