Kofi Mintah calls for support for Regional Ministers

A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Mintah, has said it was important to allow regional ministers time to settle before making demands on them.

He told the GNA in an interview that since the regional ministers are not from the regions they had been assigned, it was important that they were given time to study the terrain and appealed to chiefs and NDC supporters to assist the regional ministers to quickly acquaint themselves with their new environment.

“You know Ghanaians are impatient and want the government to improve their condition of living within the shortest possible time and as you are the agents of that change, the people want to see you in action,” Mr Mintah said.

Mr Mintah who was the first Central Regional Chairman of the party, expressed concern about agitations by some NDC youth on appointment of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) and said it was only the President who had the prerogative to appoint MMDCEs and urged them to allow the President to exercise that prerogative.

He appealed to NDC youth to engage themselves in activities which could be of benefit to the people rather than engaging in confrontations with the MMDCEs and that they should avoid actions that could tarnish the image of the party and the government.

“Do not sell the party to its opponents. Let us prove to the world that our party is a disciplined one and that we respect the rule of law,” Mr Mintah said.
