Kofi Annan to Deliver Lecture

Accra, Jan 23 GNA – Busumuru Kofi Annan, Former United Nations Secretary- General, is scheduled to deliver a lecture as part of the nation’s golden jubilee celebrations.

This was contained in a statement by the Ghana@50 Secretariat and signed by Mr Henry Wellington Okyne, the Public Affairs Officer.

The inaugural lecture which would be delivered at the Accra International Conference Centre on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 1730 hours is on the theme: 93Championing Africa’s Renaissance: In pursuit of Self-Reliance and Sustainable Economic Liberation in Africa”. The President John Agyekum Kufuor would be the guest of honour at the function to be chaired by Professor Adzei Bekoe, Chairman of the Council of State.

Kofi Annan arrives in Accra on Tuesday after serving a two-time five year terms as the Secretary General of United Nations. He was the second African to occupy that office after Egyptian, Butros Butros Ghali.
