Kofi Annan reappointed UG Chancellor

Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has been reappointed as the Chancellor of the University of Ghana.

The decision was reached by the University’s Council and its Academic Board, according to Vice Chancellor Professor Ernest Aryeetey.

He was addressing congregants at the Great Hall of the University on Friday, July 26, 2013 during the first of two ceremonies to be held this year.

“During his first term in office, Mr Annan worked tirelessly to make the University more visible internationally and spearheaded several initiatives which have significantly strengthened the research and teaching capacity of faculty as well as provided much needed infrastructure,” Prof. Aryeetey said.

“We would like to congratulate our Chancellor for his reappointment and look forward to several years of working for the continuing growth of University of Ghana,” he added.

Mr Annan was first appointed Chancellor in 2008.
