Kofi Annan leaves Ghana

Accra, Aug. 26, GNA – The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan left Accra on Thursday night after a 12-day private visit to the country. He was accompanied by his wife, Nanne.

Whilst in the country, the UN Secretary General was awarded the Global Excellence Award for his contribution to the development of society.

He later paid a working visit to Niger where about 2.5 million are starving and being supplied with food aid from the international community.

Niger was recently affected by locust invasion and drought. Mr Kofi Annan was seen off at the airport by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as representatives of UN agencies in Ghana.
