The former Energy Minister under the Kufuor administration, Mr. Kofi Adda has clarified the issue of whether ‘he was pushed or he jumped’ off his position as the energy minister contrary to the allegations made by Kennedy Agyepong, the MP for Assin North to the effect that he (Mr. Adda) was booted out of office because he simply refused to support Mr. Alan Kyeremateng who was perceived to be the President’s favorite candidate in the run up to the 2008 presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The special aide to former President Kufuor, Mr. Frank Agyekum had earlier issued a statement requesting Mr. Adda to “come out and verify the reasons for which he lost his post” and that they are well known to him (Mr. Adda) and had nothing to do with his support for Mr. Kyeremateng or any other candidate.”
In a press statement signed by Mr. Adda to respond to the request by Mr. Frank Agyekum, he (Mr. Adda) frankly stated that he is unable to assign specific reasons for his appointment as minister or for his relief from that office as the thinking behind those actions emanated purely from the discretionary powers and the sole preserve of the Presidency as enshrined in the constitution.
Mr. Adda was however quick to add that he remains grateful to President Kufuor for that privilege and recognize the numerous public servants and political associates with whose collaboration and support he was able to initiate the many policies and achieve so much for Ghana during his tenure.
Mr. Adda said, as a proud member of the NPP and considering the current state of affairs of the nation, he remains convinced that it is the principles on which the NPP was founded that will move Ghana forward and place the nation at a level comparable to any other progressive country among the comity of nations in the world.
He continued saying; “I am grateful that I had the opportunity to have served my nation so well under trying times, and to have done so under the New Patriotic Party. I urge all faithful party members to focus on the wanton corruption and gross incompetence of the NDC administration; especially as it continues to destroy the good policies initiated under the NPP administration of President Kufuor rather than dwell on internal differences.”
He also used the opportunity to do a bit of politics when he called on all “Ghanaians to continuously ask President Mahama about the Woyome judgement debt payments, the findings of the GYEEDA Report and the blatant misapplication of public funds, the numerous unfulfilled NDC campaign promises including the continuous skyrocketing of utility tariffs, the failing health insurance system and the non-introduction of the single premium, the withdrawal of incentives to train our future teachers to mention but a few. These are the matters that should occupy the minds and efforts of NPP members and all well-meaning Ghanaians if we are to redeem Ghana from the continuous decline which the NDC has led us to”.
