Kofi Adams files nomination for Buem primaries

Spokesman for former President Jerry John Rawlings, Kofi Adams, yesterday, filed nominations to contest for the seat of the late Volta Regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamal, in the Buem constituency on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He is contesting the constituency primary with 12 other individuals who are said to have equally expressed interest in the position by way of picking nomination forms.

The Buem constituency seat became vacant following the death of Ford Kamal who was the Member of Parliament for the area.

At the time of filing this story yesterday, Mr. Adams who is a Deputy General Secretary of the NDC was on his way to file his nomination.

“Yeah my brother; I am contesting,” he told Daily Guide.

His reason for contesting was that “it gives an opportunity to serve your people.”

Kofi Adams said he took the decision after being inundated with calls from residents of the area mostly the youth to represent them in Parliament and that after careful consideration “I have come to nothing but the conclusion that I would have to accept the challenge and contest the seat.”

Asked how he weighed his chances with 12 other people seeking the single-slot, a confident Mr Adams noted “my chances are very bright” insisting that he was not the least bothered but was concerned at the number of people contesting for the position.

“What I have done which is being exhibited in the constituency; what I have done in the past that people are getting to know and the fact that they need somebody who will truthfully represent them and who will serve as a nexus between them and government; they have chosen no other person but a lot of them settled on me,” he emphasized.

Sounding religious, Kofi Adams said “I’ve done what I am supposed to do as a human being but victory is in the hands of the Lord; as they say the battle is His. If he says it’s my time, I’m very convinced that I will carry the day because I’ve done what I’m supposed to do.”

The vetting committee will now interview and winnow the number of aspirants and set a date for the primary to elect a possible parliamentary candidate for the by-election scheduled for Tuesday, February 26, 2013.
