Ernest K Boateng, President of Change Attitude Ghana, has noted that the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has veered off its core mandate after its establishment by Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.
According to him, the originally science and technology-focused university has now introduced several humanities and arts courses, thereby diluting its focus of producing scientific and technological minds to deal with minor problems affecting Ghanaians.
This situation, he said, had resulted in the inability of the students to fix minor problems in gadgets including air-conditioners, computers, and others.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Monday July 3, Mr Boateng, among other things, said: “As a country we need to change our attitudes and our ways of doing things for us to progress.
“I visited KNUST in Kumasi some time ago. The computers of the department that I visited had broken down and so they had to hire and pay somebody from outside the school to fix the problem.
“They could not even call any of the students they are training to help fix the problem, probably because they do not trust them and that was worrying. The school has now a law school and we need to change that.”
