KNUST to sign Berlin Declaration on Open Access

‘ Kumasi, Oct 28, GNA – Professor William Otto Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) , on Thursday said the educational institution had decided to sign onto the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to scientific knowledge. He said the Max Planck Society, the body responsible for signatories to the declaration, had been notified about the deal. Prof Ellis was contributing to a discussion at the Open Access Africa 2011 Conference, organized in Kumasi, under the auspices of Bio-Med Central, an open access publishing firm and Computer Aid International, a non-governmental organization. He said the decision was borne out of the university’s determination to promote access to its scientific research information.
