KNUST to introduce degree course in religious studies

Kumasi, Jan. 13, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is to introduce a Bachelor of Arts (Religious Studies) degree programme by August this year, to complement the university’s curricula.

Professor Akwesi Andam, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of KNUST, who announced this, said all the necessary modalities have been worked out and that the syllabus was ready for take off of the programme this year. Professor Andam made the announcement when a team of the Presbyterian Ministers Conference Executives paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Kumasi, on Thursday.

The team of Executives also used the occasion to discuss possible areas of co-operation and collaboration between the Presbyterian Church the Presbyterian University and the KNUST.

The VC said religious and spiritual development could not be divorced from scientific and human development, hence the decision to introduce religious studies in the curricula of the KNUST.

He assured the Presbyterian Church of the readiness of the KNUST to collaborate with it in various disciplines that would bring mutual benefit to the two institutions.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, commended KNUST for not sidelining religious programmes just because of its focus on science and technology.

He observed that the KNUST had rather added spiritual development to the dimension of its science and technology programmes, describing it as laudable.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso disclosed that the Church would be holding its General Assembly meeting in Kumasi on July 29 at which the Moderator would be inducted and a new clerk elected.
