Kumasi, Aug. 17, GNA – Authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have decided to dismiss students found to be indecently dressed on campus.
Professor Emmanuel Frimpong, Dean of Students, who announced this said the measure, had become necessary because in recent times some students dressed in indecent provocative manner, especially the females. Such an unacceptable appearance had the tendency of tainting the good morals of other students and even some lecturers and therefore should not be encouraged, he stressed.
Professor Frimpong announced this when he spoke on the topic, “The Role of the Office of Dean of Students” at an orientation course organised in Kumasi on Wednesday by the KNUST for about 9,000 fresh students.
The Dean also cautioned students to avoid bad company and rather concentrate on their studies since engaging in any acts that did not conform to rules of the university could result in their dismissal. He said as one of the best-adjudged technology universities in the world, students should take full advantage of their admission into the university by learning hard to reciprocate the huge investments made in their education by both parents and the government.
Professor Frimpong announced that a total of 30 mobile phone theft cases were recorded on campus last year and advised students to be vigilant and help in various ways to curb crime on campus.
Professor Sarfo Kantanka, a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, expressed concern about some parents forcing their children to pursue specific courses, sometimes against their wish.
He entreated parents to only guide and assist children make choices but not to compel them to opt for courses against their wishes. He called on students not to shy away from leadership roles but to strive to always accept such roles since that was another means of grooming them to take up bigger challenges in future.
