KNUST take measures to curb robbery and other crimes on campus

Kumasi, March 12, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced a number of security measures to ward off threats posed by armed robbers and other criminal gangs on the university campus.

A press release issued in Kumasi on Friday by the Registrar, Mrs. Sophia Quarshie-Sam said as part of the measures, joint patrols by police, military and the university security service are being intensified and that those found loitering about or cause mischief would be arrested and prosecuted.

Besides, the security services have been empowered to check human and vehicular traffic and to question all suspicious looking characters. It said drivers of commercial vehicles visiting the campus would now be required to obtain a “pass” at the security gate.

“The pass shall duly be returned to the men at the gate when leaving the campus. No alibis will be entertained in the case of failure to return or leave the pass at any of the university gates”.

The release said drivers of commercial vehicles, which ply through the campus must also be registered through their respective unions.

All gates leading to the university except the main entrance shall now be closed between 10 pm and 5.30 am, and that “persons entering the university between these hours would have to use the main gate”. It warned those who have no business doing at the university to stay away from its campus.
