KNUST students support Children’s Home

Kumasi, Nov. 5, GNA – Students of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi on Tuesday donated food items and one million cedis to the Kumasi Children’s Home.

The items estimated at two million cedis included two bags of rice, five cutlasses, key soap, two mini cartons of milk and detergents. Presenting the items and money, Mr Frank Asamoah, leader of group, said the gesture formed part of activities marking the 32nd Faculty week celebration.

He said it also signified love, care and inspiration required for child development.

Mr Asamoah announced that a quiz competition, trip to the Cape Coast Castle and the Kakum National Park had being organised as part of activities to mark the event.

He asked the students to identify themselves with the programme to make the celebration successful.

The students also cleaned the compound, weeded a farm belonging to the Home interacted with the children, and discussed with them issues concerning child development.

Miss Victoria Asugnya, Supervisor of the Home, commended the students for the assistance and called on individuals and organisations to contribute meaningfully to the welfare of children since the government alone could not ensure their survival and development.

She also appealed to philanthropists and organisations to assist the Home to complete a block of classrooms and a social centre under construction.
