KNUST Students Demonstrate

A group of students calling itself Concerned Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are demonstrating against a proposed increase in the user fees to be charged by the University for next academic year.

The group is led by students from two male halls in the school – University Hall, also known as Katanga and the Unity Hall.

The students contend that the university plans to charge between 1.5 million cedis for courses under Humanities and 5 million cedis for the Sciences.

This, the group contends, is too much for the students to pay. They are demanding an announcement from the SRC President, who they accuse of siding with the University authorities.

One of the organizers of the demonstration, Katanga Hall President, Edward Blankson told JOY FM that they have given the SRC President, a 24-hour ultimatum to address the issue or face drastic measures from the students.
