Osino(E/R), Oct. 14, GNA – A group of medical students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, have embarked a week-long education tour of the Fanteakwa District to educate the public on Tuberculosis (TB). Addressing students of the Osino Secondary School on Thursday, Ms Afua Ohenewaa Agyei, leader of the group, said the disease was contagious and everyone was at risk of contracting it when TB patients failed to observe hygienic habits in public and sought medical treatment.

She said symptoms of the disease were, continuous dry coughing for about two weeks, loss of appetite and weight, chest pains and difficulty in breathing.

Ms Agyei said the mode of transmission included coughing, spiting or sneezing in public without covering the mouth and nose. On preventive measures, Ms Agyei advised the students to lead decent lifestyle, eating good diet especially when hot, live in well-ventilated rooms and observing personal hygiene always. She advised people who had noticed symptoms of the disease to seek early medical attention for treatment, because the disease could be cured therefore, TB patients should not be shunned by their families and society.

The group visited communities and educational institutions at Begoro, Nsutam, Bosuso and Hemang. 14 Oct.05
