A 16 member MBA students group from the School of business of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, recently visited London to forge links with other universities as well as familiarise themselves with the business climate prevailing in the United Kingdom.
Led by Dr. Kofi Poku, a lecturer at the school of business, the students have had fruitful interaction with the faculty and students of City University, Cranfield University, Imperial College, Said business school and Oxford university. They have also paid familiarisation tours to museums,Buckingham palace, London Eye, the Millennium dome, just to mention a few.
The delegation also paid a working visit to the offices of ?African Echo? a community newspaper and media group for the African community in Stratford, London.
The school of business, set up only three years ago has began making a big impact within the Ghanaian business environment. Currently over 150 students from diverse backgrounds are enrolled in the school?s Masters in Business Administration and Bachelor in Business Administration programmes. Applications for programmes offered by the school far outstrips the places available and plans underway to offer on-line distance education programmes to satisfy this need.
In an answer to a question as to how relevant courses on offer in the school of business is to the Ghanaian business environment, Messrs Kofi Bekoe and Idun, the course leaders of the visiting group said ? The Ghanaian economy is growing and changing everyday. New companies and foreign investors are coming in everyday and our programmes are structured to fill the manpower and human resource needs of the business climate.?
Dr. Kofi Poku, added that the vision of the university is to train all students in entrepreneurial studies and from the next academic year this will be a compulsory subject. He praised the vision and leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kwesi Andam and his team and mentioned that as an agent of change he is leading the university on the right path.
He also praised the efforts of Mr. Andy Lumor the resident overseas reprersentative of Universities of Ghana Office in London, for the putting together an excellent package for the group.
Dr. Poku used his visit to the African Echo media group to lunch an appeal for lecturers from all over the world to participate in a time share lecture slot the university is putting together. He mentioned that further information is available on the K.N.U.S.T. website http://www.knust.edu.gh/
The group has since returned home.
