KNUST Katanaga Hall launched Golden Jubilee celebration

The Alumni of the University Hall, otherwise known as “Katanga” of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Saturday launched its Golden Jubilee celebration in Accra.

The launch follows a six-kilometer health walk through the principal streets of Accra as part of activities to mark the hall year long programme.

Alhaji Ibrahim Adam, an alumnus, and Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), who launched the celebration, said it was important for every alumnus to contribute to the development of the hall.

He said, in his recent visit to the University, particularly the hall, the sanitation situation was very appalling, adding “We the alumni have the responsibility to make the hall hygienic for the students to study and become like us”.

Alhaji Adam also stressed the need for networking among the hall alumni which he said would give opportunity to the younger alumni in terms of employment and unity.

Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu also an alumnus and Minority Leader in Parliament said, the Katanga Hall had provided and would continue to provide a platform to the alumni to market themselves in the country.

He said he served as the hall president for two consecutive terms and that the celebration would contribute to the masculinity and familiarity of the alumni.

Mr Mensah-Bonsu said the occasion demonstrated the commitment of what Katanga and the KNUST Alumni was contributing to the national development.

Charles Dontor, President of the Alumni, said the walk was to jump start the year-long activities of the celebration, adding “Every month within this year, the alumni would have an activity to do till November.”
