KNUST introduces new courses

Kumasi, Sept 19, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has introduced new undergraduate courses this academic year to boost the human resource base of the country. The courses included Agribusiness and Extension, Landscape Design and Management, Agricultural Biotechnology, Real Estate Management, Sonography and Veterinary Medicine.

Professor Kwasi Akwafo Adarkwah, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, said this at the university’s matriculation ceremony on Saturday of which a total number of 9,463 students were admitted to pursue various courses. He said the new courses were in line with efforts by the university to widen access to tertiary education and to address the problems of industry and rural communities.

The university offered admission on concessionary basis to 337 students from less-endowed Senior High Schools (SHS) in the country which represented 3.6 per cent of the total enrolment. Prof. Adarkwah said six out of the beneficiary students were offered admission to the School of Medical Sciences. The Alumni Association of the university is offering sponsorship to three needy students who after their admission could not raise funds to pay their fees, he said. Prof. Adarkwah tasked the students to maintain high moral and academic standards since education and career development were linked to discipline.
