KNUST honours 173 workers

Kumasi, Oct 5, GNA- The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, on Thursday awarded Professor Kwesi Andam, immediate-past Vice-Chancellor and 172 other workers of KNUST for their contributions to the development of the educational institution. The recipients, senior and junior workers, at a ceremony to mark the sixth awards programme, were given souvenirs of the University, shields, cloths and an undisclosed amount of money.

A citation accompanying the awards read in part, “. . . . . .we present to you these awards in recognition of your long and dedicated service. You have paid your dues to the university in all these years which is very remarkable.”

Prof. William Ellis, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, urged Government to improve upon the working conditions of university workers and appealed to stakeholders and corporate bodies to invest in university education for accelerated socio-economic development of the nation.

Nana Adusei Poku, Akyempimhene of Kumasi, praised the authorities of KNUST for imitating the awards, which was started in 1992. He expressed hoped that the gesture would encourage workers to work harder to enable the University to realise its mission statement.
