KNUST departments urged to do more generate own funds

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has urged the various departments and faculties to develop innovative programmes and products that would help bring in more internally-generated funds (IGFs).

He said they needed to be creative to generate their own funds and reduce the overly reliance on government for carrying out their activities.

The University, he said, had the expertise and technical know-how that could be used by way of consultancies and product development to strengthen its financial base.

Prof Ellis was speaking at the 2011/2012 awards ceremony held by the College of Art and social Sciences (CASS) in Kumasi. “Celebrating Excellence” was the theme.

In all, 20 students of the College were recognized for their singular academic performance. They received plaques and cash ranging from GH¢1,000.00 to GH¢ 200.00.

Also honoured, were the KNUST’s School of Business and the Department of Accounting and Finance.

The former was adjudged the department with the most progressive website, while the latter came top in research.

Dr. Mrs. Lebene Tetteh, Head of the Department of Modern Languages, who emerged as the most responsive head, was also rewarded.

Prof Ellis congratulated the award winners for their hard work and urged them to keep up the good job.

Prof Samuel Afranie, the Provost of the CASS, encouraged the departments to take interest in research to help address societal challenges.
