KNUST deepens cooperation with Burkina Faso

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering, Burkina Faso, to deepen cooperation in areas of research and technology transfer.

The agreement seeks to enhance joint programmes of study leading to the award of postgraduate and doctorate degrees in engineering to students from the two institutions.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST and Mr. Paul Ginies, Head of Management of the Institute, signed for their respective institutions.

Prof Ellis said the KNUST is committed to collaborating with research institutions, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, to share ideas with the view to finding solutions to the socio-economic problems impeding sustainable growth.

He said the important role science and technology as well as research played in the development of any society could not be underestimated and it behooved on stakeholders to invest in those areas.

He was hopeful that the institutions would work according to the terms of reference of the agreement to achieve their objectives.

Mr. Ginies said the goal of his Institute is to become a centre of excellence in the training of professionals in the areas of water, energy and the environment.

It would therefore, do everything and explore avenues to realize this set goal.

Mr. Ginies said Africa has a lot of development potentials and challenged leaders on the continent to pay attention and fully exploit these to make life better for the population.**
