KNUST arrests three Nigerian students for robbery

Kumasi, April 18, GNA – Security personnel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), have arrested three Nigerian students of the academic facility for robbery.

The suspects, Maduike Kingsley Uchenna, a second-year Chemical Engineering student, Oganwu Austin Ameachi, a second-year Electrical Engineering student and Oyetunjy Mathew Kwaku Seyi, a final year Computer Engineering student, have all been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigations. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, Colonel William Kofi Addo (retired), Head of the KNUST Security, said the suspects in the early hours of Thursday, wore masks and forced their way into the room of a final year female Theoretical and Applied Biology student at the Brunei Hostel.

He said the victim who was sleeping in the room alone was gagged with a black cello tape by the suspects who were wielding machetes and knives after which they asked her to lie flat on her bed. They then ransacked the room and took two laptops, 35 dollars and 40 Ghana Cedis belonging to the victim and her room mates. Col. Addo said the suspects after the robbery allegedly left the room, leaving the door ajar.

He said the victim however managed to get up, moved to her next door neighbour who assisted her to remove the cello tape from her mouth and narrated the incident.

Following this, a report was lodged with the security personnel on duty at the hostel, leading to the arrest of Oganwu who was carrying a bag containing the two laptops and leaving the facility. Soon after, Oyetunjy was also arrested at the vicinity while Maduke was later arrested at the University Hall.
