KNUST aims to be among best 10 universities in the world

Kumasi, Sept 7, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is putting in place measures to ensure that it is placed among the best 10 universities in the world.

The university had in a recent survey conducted by Cybermetrics Laboratories, a research group attached to the Ministry of Education in Spain, been placed as the university 13th best in Africa and first in Ghana.

Prof Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwah, Vice Chancellor of KNUST, called on all stake holders such as students, parents, lecturers, staff, government, the private sector and all others whose activities affect the development of the university to contribute their quota towards achieving this goal.

Prof Adarkwah said this at a mentoring session for final year students of the Publishing Studies Department of KNUST as part of their curricular development programme.

The mentoring session was aimed at motivating the students and it gave them the opportunity to interact and shared ideas with people who have made it big either in industry or academia. He urged students to ensure that society benefited from their education by impacting lives positively through their service to society.

He said the major challenge confronting KNUST was funding and that the Gh¢290,000 allocated to the university by the government this year was inadequate and called for something to be done about such funding to enhance teaching and learning at the university. 07 Sept 09
