Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has said the assembly would commit resources to the development of schools in the Metropolis especially in the peri-urban areas.
Speaking at the open day of the Duase Primary School at Duase, near Kumasi, Mr Jumah, however, said the provision of physical infrastructure and other facilities aimed at creating congenial atmosphere for effective teaching and learning would not be fruitful without the support and commitment of the community.
He, therefore, called on parents and other educational stakeholders to realise that the education of their children was an essential life-long investment.
They should mobilise resources to complement the efforts the assembly.
Mrs Gladys Kwapong, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, said failure to obtain a minimum number of attendance should be considered together with academic performance in determining whether a pupil should repeat a class or not. She said going through formal education needed commitment, dedication and perseverance.
Mr Edward Opoku Gyambibi, Assistant Director of Education at Ashanti Region Catholic Education Office, said most parents have misplaced priorities and there was need for them to invest in providing quality education for their children.
“Knowledge is acquired through education while wisdom is also acquired through spiritual development and godliness”.
