KMA PM poll: Kill selfish interests – Minister

Members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) must put aside personal interests and work towards the progress of the Assembly, Ashanti Regional Minister John Alexander Ackon has charged members.

The Minister, who was not enthused about the failure of the assembly to elect a presiding member for the umpteenth time, pointed out that the deadlock had hampered development in the metropolis.

Members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) again attempted electing a Presiding Member today, Tuesday September 27, after four failed attempts.

The Assembly has been split as supporters of both candidates: Nana Kofi Senya and Adumhene Baffuor Agyei Kese IV, have taken entrenched positions to ensure their preferred candidate is elected.

In the four elections conducted so far, none of the candidates could garner the constitutionally mandated two-thirds majority of votes cast.

One of the contestants, Adumhene, Baffour Agyei Kesse IV, has agreed to step aside while his main opponent, Assembly Member for Suame Nana Kofi Senyah has refused to do so.

He is contesting unopposed as voting is underway for members to either accept or reject him.
