KMA introduces biometric security system

Workers at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly now go through biometric process to confirm attendance and punctuality at work.

A clocking system introduced by new Mayor, Kojo Bonsu, is part of measures to improve efficiency to enhance productivity.

The system is also able track whether or not workers leave their duty posts before or after the official closing time.

Mr. Kojo Bonsu who has been in office since May 2013, says the system is among many policies and measures to be implemented to help achieve the assembly’s objectives and the NDC’s Better Ghana Agenda.

He says the assembly is set to explore the unique potential in the region to enable the metropolis regain its “glory” as a garden city.

Public Relations Officer at KMA, Godwin Okuma Nyame, says the new measure which was introduced only a few weeks ago, has helped to reduce truancy.

Mr. Okuma Nyame explains stated:

“The essence of this is to ensure discipline and this would promote punctuality. The machine is timed and would indicate your time of arrival and departure. If you decide to boycott it we would get to know because the machine would not have your data meaning you did not come to work.”

Meanwhile, questions are being raised about when Mr. Bonsu’s CCTV initiative to check crime will materialize.

However, Mr. Okuma-Nyame tells Nhyira News the mayor is committed to the cause as the assembly has started the debate on the Mayor’s address on state of the Assembly, after which the needed inputs will be made for its introduction to check crime in the metropolis.
