Thirty city guards from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have been commissioned after a month-long training with the Ghana Armed Forces in Kumasi.
The guards received military training at the 4th Battalion of Infantry to help them go about their duties professionally.
In an address, the Mayor of the Kumasi metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Kojo Bonsu charged the trainees to exhibit a high sense of professionalism in the pursuant of their duties.
They should also eschew corrupt practices such as taking bribes which have the potential of influencing their responsibilities on duty.
“Be reminded that the basics of this training with the military are aimed at building your professional capacities to ensure the effective and efficient discharge of your assigned duties” He reminded.
Stressing that, “We, therefore, look forward to witnessing a remarkable improvement in your overall performance and for that matter some sanity in the Central Business District of the city”.
Hon. Bonsu. charged the guards to refrain from all negative tendencies that have the potential of marring the image of the KMA.
“Be warned that acts that are inimical to the corporate image of the KMA will not be tolerated. Not for even a minute”. He charged.
The Mayor was full of praise for the Commander of the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier, J.A Boampong and the course instructors for what he described as, “worthy partners of the KMA”
The General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brigadier General Joseph Adu Boampong, admonished the guards to live by example by exhibiting the discipline and professional attributes imparted to them by their instructors.
This is because their colleague guards who have not had the opportunity of the military orientation would look up to them.
Brigadier Boampong, challenged the trained guards to live up to the expectations of the KMA and the general public.
The guards were taken through drills, armed combat, self defense and physical training.
Three metro guards who excelled during the training were presented with awards.
They include Constable Clement Opoku who received an award for been the best in physical training and Constable Doris Nyarko who emerged the best guard in drill. Constable Fredrick Amoako Mensah was adjudged the overall best metro guard.
