KMA Chief Executive receives high marks

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Kojo Bonsu, has received high marks for taking measures to tackle poor work ethics among the staff of the Assembly.

Mr Bonsu has introduced a biometric system that effectively monitors the time of arrival and closure from duty by the workers.

This has won him commendation from the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, who is urging more of such innovations to increase productivity.

Addressing a meeting of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Kumasi, he said everything should be done to check laziness, absenteeism and other bad attitudes, unhelpful to quality service delivery.

Mr Opoku said Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and departmental heads must ensure proper supervision to raise output and justify the huge emolument payment by the government.

The meeting brought together MMDCEs, heads of department, security chiefs and traditional rulers to discuss the performance of the assemblies in terms of the implementation of government policies, programmes and projects.

Mr Opoku asked the MMDCEs to be guided by the rules and regulations governing the conduct of their functions, telling them to never resort to doing things their own way.

He said they should remember to “work in a bureaucracy where conduct is regulated by laws and must obey them”.

He directed that the assemblies prepare action plans to clean up the communities of garbage and filth.

Additionally, he said, they should fashion out strategies for effective implementation of all on-going development projects to improve the lives of the people.
