Klottey Korley NDC Chairman urges supporters to remain calm

Alhaji Bashiru Nii Narh Alema, Klottey Korley Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on supporters of the party to remain calm and firm despite the controversy over the parliamentary primary.

Some aggrieved members of the Constituency, had challenged the eligibility of Dr Zenator Rawlings for contesting the parliamentary primary in November 2015 and petitioned the party authorities against the move.

The petition was copied to the President, the Council of Elders, the National Chairman of the Legal Committee and the Constituency Secretary among others.

Alhaji Alema who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said this is the time for the party supporters to put aside their personal differences and help ensure victory in the 2016 general election.

“We should be mindful of the fact that politics is not about division and enmity, but numbers and as much as one do not agree with any candidate that does not give those who holds contrary views to insult and fight others,” he observed.

He said: “I strongly favour a dialogue since the NDC will be seen as a truly democratic party, hence the need to add my voice to the unnecessary mischief going on.”

Alhaji Alema said it is only through collaboration between supporters and the executives that the NDC could achieve its targets.

He said: “We should concentrate on things that would move the party forward and put aside things that would divide us,” and supporters in the constituency to rather reach out to others outside the party to bring them into the NDC fold so that the party remains in power.

He cautioned against activities that are becoming detrimental to the progress of the party in the constituency and called on the foot-soldiers that are getting discouraged to stand firm.

Alhaji Alema told the NDC members and supporters that though the party’s fundamental aim is to attain power, they are obliged to ensure peace, unity and stability and to mobilise the people for development.

He called for unity and cooperation from party members to ensure victory for the NDC in the forthcoming polls.
