Klottey Korle: Nii Noi goes independent

Defeated NPP parliamentary aspirant for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has formally declared his desire to contest the legislative election in November 2016 as an independent candidate.

Mr Nortey polled 367 in the party’s recently re-run parliamentary primary as against Philip Addison’s 367 votes.

Mr Nortey had been declared winner in an earlier primary on August 2, 2015 but Mr Addison challenged the results in court, which was upheld, occasioning a re-run by the party.

At a press conference to communicate his decision, the failed aspirant said: “I have consulted widely, I have prayed to my God and I have spoken to my family and extensively considered the opinion of my kingmakers and the electorate. I have arrived at the decision, which resonates with the masses, to declare that I, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, shall contest as parliamentary candidate in the 2016 parliamentary election in Klottey Korle constituency.”
