Kitchener to sign partnership agreement with six district assemblies

Kumasi, Oct. 25, GNA – The National Association Of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has selected six municipal, metropolitan and district assemblies to form partnership with the city of Kitchener in Canada.

The partnership includes strengthening local governance, data collection revenue mobilization, capacity building as well as the private sector development.

The districts are Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Ho, Wa, and Sunyani municipal assemblies. Suhum Kraboa Coaltar, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem district assemblies. Ms Gladys Gillian N Tetteh, Senior Programme Officer of NALAG announced this at a meeting with assembly members of the KMA, heads of decentralized departments and a three-member Kitchener delegation in Kumasi on Wednesday. The meeting allowed the participants to discuss local governance, structures and responsibilities in both Canada and Ghana. She said NALAG and Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) would facilitate the two and half year programme. Ms Edith Gingras, of the International Centre for Development Coordinator in Africa said that the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will provide funds for the programme She appealed to the participants to discuss thoroughly the modalities pertaining to the partnership and come out with proposal to enable it take off.
