Kintampo hawkers injured in accident

Five hawkers are on admission at the Kintampo Municipal Hospital following the injuries they received when a private vehicle run over them, near the Police check point, along the Kintampo Babato Kuma Highway.

They are Abena Fuabea – 41; Donpo Stella -19; Rose Kwabena -30; Oforiwa Mavis-32; and one Ernestina – 25.

Other victims who received minor injuries were treated and discharged.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, who confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Sunyani, said the driver of the vehicle, Michael Sia Govra, 51, had been placed in police custody pending investigations.

He said the accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when the hawkers had gathered near the snap check point of the Police to sell their wares.

ASP Tawiah said though those on admission were in critical condition, they were responding to treatment.

He advised hawkers to desist from selling near police barriers and toll boots.
