Kintampo District Assembly provides KVIP for schools

Agyina (B/A), May 27, GNA- The Kintampo District Assembly is assisting residents of Agyina to construct a 10-seater KVIP place of convenience for students and staff of the local Primary and Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).

The project, estimated at 40 million cedis, is under the Assembly’s community water and sanitation programme.

Mr. Frey Kennedy B. Baffoe, Headmaster of the JSS, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the people would contribute four million cedis towards the project.

He noted that the provision of the facility would help check absenteeism and truancy among students.

He commended the government and the District Assembly for providing educational infrastructure to enhance education in the area. Mr. Baffoe said under the Government’s Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) project, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had assisted the community to construct a six-classroom block for the local primary school.

The Assembly has also constructed a three-classroom block for the local JSS, he added.

Mr. Baffoe said as a result of the increasing enrolment in the primary school, plans were being made to create two streams to prevent congestion in the classrooms.

The Headmaster noted that the main problems facing the school were the refusal of most parents to pay their children’s school fees and inadequate accommodation for teachers.

He called on the Assembly to assist the community to provide accommodation for the teachers.
