The National House of Chiefs (NHC) has advised kingmakers to desist from acts likely to trigger confusion and plunge the nation into turmoil.
The house called on them to follow due procedures and to involve stakeholders in the selection, approval and installation of chiefs in order to bring social harmony in their communities.
A statement signed by President of the House, Wulugu Naba Pugansoa, Naa Professor John S. Nabila, and issued in Kumasi on Friday said the NHC is worried about recent violence relating “to who is or who is not a chief in some parts of the country”.
The statement noted that chieftaincy is a revered and sanctified institution and therefore nothing should be done to tarnish its image or bring it into disrepute.
“The House urges parties aspiring to be chiefs to respect the traditional laws, customs and processes and follow the appropriate legal steps when dissatisfied rather than resorting to violence.”
It urged chiefs to be circumspect pointing out that they could not succeed without the support of their subjects.
The statement also counselled the youth to be law abiding, focus on their talents and avoid doing things that do not augur well for the development of their communities.
