Medikal has shrugged off copyright infringement claims from DJ Azonto with a sharp dose of humour, using the now-viral phrase “Killa Ntua!” to reject a series of flamboyant compensation demands.
The dispute began on July 9 when DJ Azonto’s management, Rolls Royce Family, accused the rapper of unlawfully using the word “Alla” in his latest single, Shoulder. According to the team, the phrase is a core part of DJ Azonto’s artistic identity and brand recognition.
“The term ‘Alla’, which is part of DJ Azonto’s signature slogan ‘Alla Woyo’, is an established element of his artistic identity. It is strongly linked to his image, live performances, and fan engagement,” said Sammy Anim, Public Relations Officer for the team.
But Medikal, known as much for his lyrical dexterity as his satirical online persona, took to social media to clap back in signature style. Quoting an article about the allegations, he simply posted, “Killa Ntua!”—a phrase in Twi that loosely translates to “I won’t pay.”
The phrase quickly caught fire on social media, with fans interpreting it as a cheeky dismissal of the demands. DJ Azonto’s team had requested what many considered an outrageous list of compensations: luxury cars, a mansion, and even a diplomatic passport.
Though Medikal hasn’t issued a formal statement, his playful tweet has set the tone for his position on the matter. The clash has sparked widespread conversation among fans, entertainers, and legal observers about the seriousness of branding and trademark claims in Ghana’s creative industry.
