Kids catch ex-convict stealing

A 22-year ex-convict has been jailed for four years for a theft by Bibiani Circuit Court after he was caught stealing a handbag by a group of children.

Augustine Acheampong, who had just completed a jail term for a similar offence, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police Chief Inspector Asamoah told the court that the convict sneaked into the shop of Madam Vida Mintah and stole her handbag containing her two cellular phones, a lady’s dress and a half-piece of wax print on January 30 at Dansoman, a suburb of Bibiani.

Some children, who saw Acheampong engage in the act, raised the alarm and he was arrested and handed over to the police by neigbours.

The prosecution said Acheampong confessed to the crime during interrogation.
