KIA ready to receive guests

Accra, March 3, GNA – The Kotoka International Airport (KIA), is sparkling and ready to receive guests of the Ghana@50 with smiles as the colours of the national flag adorned almost everywhere. The anniversary slogans, logos and phrases splashed all around and blending with the serene atmosphere encompass the festive mood the country was in.

At the front of the main Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) building, are life-size portraits of all the members of the “Big Six” namely, Dr kwame Nkrumah, Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey, Dr Ako Adjei, Mr Edward Akufo-Addo, William Ofori Atta and Dr J.B. Danquah as well as traditional Ghanaian symbols such as the Gye-Nyame and Adinkra symbols. Gay coloured balloons could also be seen at parts of both the arrival and departure halls along side other decorations and designs, which cover a significant part of the immediate exterior part of the airport.

Fervent rehabilitation works going on at some major parts of the airport is near completion.

Major streets leading to and from the airport have also been decorated with anniversary symbols and slogans as well as colours of the national flag.

Sources at the Ghana Tourist Board at the airport told the GNA that since the beginning of the year, several arriving passengers were making enquiries about the anniversary celebrations and the frequency of such enquiries keep increasing as the anniversary date draws closer. Final touches are also being made to the presidential lounge. Twenty-four African Heads of State are expected to lead delegations of their respective countries to participate in activities marking Ghana’s 50th jubilee celebrations.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Afairs, Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, said at a recent media briefing that the Heads of State were among 65 heads of international delegations confirmed to participate in the anniversary celebrations.
