‘Khebab’ seller on trial for murder

Ho, June 7, GNA – A 21-year-old barbecue vendor in Ho, who allegedly stabbed the chest of a man to death during a misunderstanding between them, has been remanded in Prison custody by a Ho circuit court on a provisional charge of murder.

The plea of Robert Dodzi Awi was not taken and he is to re-appear before same court on June 19, 2006.

Police Corporal George Yeboah told the court, presided over by Nana Agyemang Badu, that on May 31, this year, at about 2100 hours, the deceased David Essah, 28, left his house in the company of one Dodzi Amekudzi to have a drink.

The Prosecution said the two settled at a joint where the accused was operating and in the course of their stay, the deceased allegedly told Awi to stop telling people that he hailed from Ho. This, according to Cpl Yeboah, resulted in a quarrel between the two and during the hot exchanges, Awi allegedly stabbed the chest of the deceased with a ‘khebab’ stick and fled.

The Court heard that Essah was pronounced dead when he was rushed to the Volta Regional Hospital.
